ONE Originally called the Obstructions Network Event, after evaluating our pilot event we have shaped the project as a Working Social, with less emphasis on networking for networking sake, and more on sharing in a creative process. The events will be an opportunity for media artists to come together, and work in a creative environment for a day, responding to a set of instructions, or obstructions, to create new work. Each participant will produce their own piece. Participation in ONE is free.
|
Participants will receive their obstructions at the beginning of the day, and not before. At the end of the day there will be a screening or showcase of the produced work, and a vote for the winning piece. ONE-beta:
Pilot
event Eleven artists took part in the first pilot event, ONE-beta. Seven artists were from Shrewsbury. One Shrewsbury artist, Laura Cooper, participated via live internet from Bangkok, where she is based for a six-months artist residency in an English school. Two artists travelled from Hereford for the event, and one from Coventry. A pilot screening of the work made, along with an evaluation film of the day and a presentation of our development for the ONE project was held at the Old Market Hall on Saturday 15 March. The evaluation film can be viewed here.

Future events Thanks to support from Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council, we have funding to run two events at The Hive Music & Media Centre, in Shrewsbury. Sunday 19 October 2008 Eligibility & booking ONE is a new media production event, but does not exclude artists who usually work in other media, as long as they are technically self-sufficient. Although a sharing and collaborative day, all artists need to be able to work independently as there is no technical support. The event is open to any practising artist but not students. Artists do not have to be based in the West Midlands, although there is no support for travel or accommodation. Similarly, ONE is aimed at emerging artists, but open to established artists as well. The Hive has its own digital media studios, but artists are encouraged to bring any kit with them that they are likely to need. Once the participants are confirmed we will work out the equipment needs accordingly. We are asking artists interested in participating to contact us via email, with a brief statement of your practice.
